But if you’re having trouble settling on whether or not you want to rent a house or an apartment… Check out our advice on the “pros and cons” of renting a local apartment as opposed to the “pros and cons” of renting a local house, which can be found below. (also, for additional information on this topic, please see our blog post titled “Pros and Cons of Rent to Own Programs”)
Renting An Apartment vs Renting A House in Gloucester County
Renting A Gloucester County Apartment –
In [market city], one can choose from a plethora of wonderful apartment options.
You have probably discovered brand new apartment complexes that come with a variety of enticing amenities, such as a swimming pool, a fitness center, a recreation area, and many other desirable features.
You’ve probably also heard of some apartments that are so basic that they only provide you with four walls and not much else.
So here are some Pros for renting local apartments:
- When compared to renting a house, the cost of rent for an apartment is typically more affordable.
- There are times when certain services are already included in your rent (trash, water, etc.)
- Maintenance is completely handled by the management (if you live in a larger complex, the maintenance person is typically on-site and able to make repairs quickly).
- There are times when there are more available apartment units than there are houses that you want.
- Commonly included amenities include recreation rooms, fitness centers, swimming pools, and even more.
- There are times when you are able to pick up your neighbor’s wifi signal!
Here are some Cons of renting local apartments:
– You have neighbors sharing walls with you (sometimes on 3 sides of you)
– The stairs: If you get an upstairs apartment it can be a pain getting your furniture in and out
– Parking lot dings: If you’ve lived in a large apartment complex where you’re parking in a shared parking lot… you’ve likely experienced a ding or two from your neighbors on your car.
– Usually, you don’t get a yard that is just for you (if you do, it’s usually very very small)
So what about renting a house in Gloucester County?
Here are some Pros for renting local houses:
- In most cases, you will get more space than in an apartment (and more privacy)
- There is no wall-to-wall cohabitation between you and your neighbors.
- You don’t feel like you’re living in a temporary apartment but rather in a home when you’re there.
- In most cases, the neighborhoods are densely populated with other homes and have the atmosphere of a true community… instead of a multi-building apartment complex
- Most of the time, a number of utilities are paid for in advance.
Here are some Cons for renting local houses:
- There will be times when you are expected to perform some of the additional minor maintenance on your own (not always though)
- There may be a scarcity of desirable, high-quality rental homes available for you to choose from.
- A house typically requires a larger security deposit than an apartment does.
- Rent is usually higher for a house of similar square footage vs. an apartment (because you’re paying for the other benefits of having a house mentioned above)
So, What Kind of Gloucester County Houses Should You Start to Look At
In the end, I can’t say that local Gloucester County apartments are better than houses to rent or not.
It’s really down to your preference of what you want.
If you want more space and room to roam (without having to share walls with neighbors)… then renting a house will be the route you want to go.
If you’re looking for lots of options, a lower price, and extra amenities like a pool… take a look at the local apartments.
Or, the 3rd option for you is a local Gloucester County rent to own home program.
